Video Game Movies And Why They Suck

The famous video game movie director Uwe Boll

That’s the age old question. Why do video game movies suck? Some games out there have awesome stories but when translated into a full length movie, they end up being horrible. My prime examples would be the Resident Evil movies. The source material that the games provide is very good, yet director Paul W.S. Anderson, for some god awful reason, decides to completely change the storyline into a terrible film series. I am still trying to figure out why there’s 5 of these movies and with a sixth planned.

Even Picard hates these movies

Aside from those evil movies (no pun intended), there has been a slew of other horrible game-based movies. Lets take a quick look:

Super Mario Bros

Alone in the Dark

Far Cry

BloodRayne

Doom

Excuse me while I go vomit.

To be fair, the Silent Hill movie wasn’t THAT bad. As for as game movies go it was OK. But that’s like comparing a dry heave to puking. One’s not as bad, but still very sickening.

So, why are all of these movies bad? As I mentioned a lot of these games have rich story-lines but on the big screen they end up being terrible. Sometimes the movie’s story-line is completely different from the game.

Why don’t directors just make a video game-based movie that follows the video game? Look at Max Payne, that was completely different!

I think part of the problem is that when making a game movie, the directors want the movie to appeal to everybody and not just the followers of that game. So he/she changes the story around and what it ends up being is something less than salvageable.

So I leave you with these wise words: One should not rearrange the sheets of an already made bed.

If I forgot any movies, or if you just want to talk about this some more with me, follow me!
